Rogers, ARCrafton Tull served as the civil engineering and surveying consultant for one of the premiere outdoor entertainment amphitheaters in the state of Arkansas and surrounding areas. The Walmart AMP has become a nationally recognized venue for artists of all sizes and genres. Crafton Tull worked with Core Architects and a team of other engineering firms to design an innovative venue that will impact Northwest Arkansas for decades to come.
In 2013, the Arkansas Music Pavilion was stationed at the Washington County Fairgrounds as a temporary venue. After significant growth in attendance, ticket sales, and demand, it became clear that a permanent and dedicated site was needed to sustain a profitable business model and meet the growing need for arts and entertainment in the region. It was at this time the Walton Arts Center decided to relocate the AMP to Rogers, Arkansas.
The project came with many challenges, including how to situate a large, outdoor music venue within a dense urban environment and meet newly established stormwater quality parameters set forth by the City of Rogers. Special considerations were made, such as positioning the stage away from residential zoning and grading a large, multi-use seating area to buffer against sound pollution. To meet water quality standards, a previously built retention pond was retrofitted to accommodate a Water Quality Capture Volume that brought not only the AMP into compliance but also a large portion of the Pinnacle Heights Subdivision. A four-tiered bioretention system was also designed to treat runoff from the north parking area.
