Camden, ARCrafton Tull provided civil engineering services to produce biddable construction documents for this 2-mile, 9-foot wide multi-use pedestrian trail along an abandoned rail corridor in Camden, Arkansas. The documents included trail alignment, grading and drainage, paving design, trail lighting, trailhead design and detailing, parking, and trail furnishings. The design also included special paving, signage, and bollards at several road crossings to include a state highway.
There were several historical, cultural, and natural points of interest along the trail. The engineers were sensitive in their design to ensure these features were not impacted. At each of these features, the trail design provided a means by which to enjoy each of these features without altering the nature of the feature or negatively impacting the setting. These features included a scenic overlook of an existing creek, an area of significant trees, a historical marker along the old rail corridor, and a natural spring that was preserved and enhanced with the construction of bioswales and rain gardens.
