Clabber Creek Hydraulic Study

Client

The City of Fayetteville

Completion

2020

Location

Fayetteville, AR

This study for the City of Fayetteville sought to find solutions to flooding that overtops the road at Deane Solomon Road and Salem Road, as well as alleviate flooding in the Salem Village subdivision. The roughly 1.25 miles of Clabber Creek studied is designated as Zone AE on the FEMA FIRM.

This study took the City’s effective hydraulic model and updated it to survey conditions for the existing roadway crossing using GeoHEC-RAS. This model was then used to size bridge structures at Deane Solomon Road and Salem Road. A conceptual roadway design to accommodate the raised structures was provided with a cost estimate for future improvements. Span bridges were recommended to replace the existing small box culvert and bridge found to be significantly undersized.

The report also considered a floodwall along the Creek or regional detention upstream of Salem Road to protect the homes in the Salem Village subdivision. A scenario was run for re-establishing the historic channel of Clabber Creek that had been straightened and passing it through a portion of the former Razorback Golf Course.
